K Dyble Thompson’s art communicates the joy she feel in exploring the world around her, from the animals and plants in the garden to the people and architecture in piazzas in lands to which she is drawn. She is an avid traveler, and no matter where she is she studies her surroundings, recording and interpreting them in small watercolor studies done on site. “In my studies of light, color and location, I create my own database of nature, piazzas and people that act as catalysts for memories anecdotes from my travels.” This database serves as a starting point for Dyble Thompson’s illustration work at her home in Milwaukee, WI. Her interaction with the nature, people, and the dialog entered into becomes part of the finished work. Her goal is to make a connection between a place or person she knows and the viewer. By taking the viewer on a journey and sharing her understanding of the truth to be found she is demystifying and making beautiful what might otherwise be foreign or strange. She provided the beautiful illustrations for Because Brian Hugged His Mother.
