To kick off our eNewsletter campaign we’re giving away a different free book every week to a lucky winner. This week’s featured book is Sunshine on my Shoulders. What better way to celebrate the arrival of summer than with this adaptation of the John Denver classic. Children and adults alike will love Christopher Canyon’s whimsical and humorous illustrations, that capture the innocence of childhood. The hardback edition includes a CD of John singing The Music Is You and Sunshine On My Shoulders, plus the musical score of Sunshine.
John’s grandmother gave him his first guitar at the age of seven, and another at the age of twelve. He loved to sing and play, and by the 1970s John Denver was one of America’s most popular musicians. Several of his songs reached #1 on the charts. Over 32 million John Denver albums have sold in the United States alone, making him one of the top selling vocal artists of all time. Yet John Denver was much more than an entertainer. Although he continued to sing until his death in 1997, in his later career John mostly campaigned for social and environmental causes, including Feed the Children, The Hunger Project, and Friends of the Earth.
