Karen Ansberry, author of Nature Did It First, is the right person for the job when it comes to writing about a complex science topic for children. She’s also a nature lover, picture-book fan, STEM enthusiast, and mom of four young reading addicts. Ansberry is the co-author of the bestselling Picture-Perfect Science and Picture-Perfect STEM series.
One of the seeds for the creation of the book was planted during author Carolyn Combs’s childhood when she camped next to a noisy beaver dam in the New Hampshire woods. She remembers wondering what all the ruckus was about! While doing the research for this book, she learned not only that beavers smack their tails on water to warn about predators but also that animals are communicating all of the time! Writing the book gave her a new appreciation for the inner world of animals.
