Kristin Joy Pratt-Serafini was only 14 when she wrote and illustrated A Walk in the Rainforest. She went on to publish five more books with Dawn and was named an “Eco Star” by the Cousteau Society and inducted into the Kid Heroes Hall of Fame by E: The Environmental Magazine.
“A Walk in the Rainforest is a stunning alphabet book.” – Parent Magazine
While A Walk in the Rainforest takes readers on a journey through the precious diversity of tropical rainforest, A Swim through the Sea is a playful jaunt on the bottom of the sea.
It follows Seamore the seahorse as he meets and greets some of the wild-looking denizens of the ocean. Both of these books are imbued with the message that wild creatures are worth protecting.
Why have these books stood the test of time? Perhaps it is because they speak to something we know deep down:
“Environmental awareness, at a very early age, is the key to preserving our world,” Kristin Joy Pratt wrote in her first contact with Dawn. “When young children gain a knowledge and respect for nature they in turn love and protect it. If this book takes one small step towards that end it will have served its purpose.”
